The Kompetenzzentrum Holz GmbH (Wood K plus) provides research and development services for industries in the field of wood composite materials and wood chemistry.

Within our R&D activities on “Biobased Composites & Processes” (BCP) we conduct basic research on the use of carbon fibres and/or biobased composites in 3D-FLM printing. As part of an European research project in collaboration with Austrian, Russian and Lithuanian partners (universities and companies) we are looking for a

Ph.D. Student

Your responsibility:

The aim of the project is the development of a printer for processing of continuous fiber reinforced filaments, 3D printed demonstrators for application in aircraft structures and material formulations as basis to that.

Within this EU-project the Ph.D. study includes:

• Compounding and filament extrusion
• Development and evaluation of material formulations by
• 3D FLM printing (Fused Layer Modelling)
• Characterization of printed coupon and structural samples
• Simulation of coupon and structural samples
• Communication with project partners (e.g. when tests are performed at company partners)
• Writing scientific papers in peer-reviewed SCI journals as well as presenting results at national and international conferences

Your qualification:

• University degree at master or diploma level, preferable in polymer engineering and technologies, mechatronics or mechanical engineering
• Experience in polymer processing
• Experience in material testing and characterisation
• Experience with simulation tools
• Independent and flexible elaboration of solutions
• Good knowledge in spoken and written English
